Conscience:  Sophie Scholl – The Final Days

Here is a good resource when teaching ‘conscience’.

It tells the true story of a young German student who defied the Nazis during World War II - she was part of the White Rose group.

She is such a great role model for young people, and the film is superbly done - in particular Julia Jentsch is outstanding in the title role.

There's one especially good sequence, about two thirds of the way through - Sophie says a prayer in her cell and this is followed by her final interrogation, which in particular raises issues of conscience and principle.

It's also useful for classes on the relationship between morality and the law.
