World Marathon Relay Athletics Challenge

On Tuesday, 30th October a team of 30 1st and 2nd year students comprised of Sacred Heart, Secondary School, Tullamore and Colaiste Choilm were up in the Harriers competing in a World Marathon Relay Challenge organised for the Save the Children charity.

Eamon Henry from the Offaly Sports Partnership was the driving force behind this event. The Tullamore team were competing against other Irish teams as well as teams throughout the world. Ronan Scully was the special guest and he was on hand to start the event.

The students had to pass a baton after every 200 metres until they had completed the full marathon distance of 26.1 miles. The team finished in a time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 57 seconds which guaranteed them 1st place in Ireland. They also finished 6th in the world. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved. They were presented with the John Tracey cup as a result.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week took place from 6th Oct -10th Oct. Ms. Lanham coordinated a fantastic week of events and activities for the whole school.

There was whole school assembly every morning with groups such as the choir, the traditional music group and orchestra providing entertainment. There was a talk for parents from nutritionist Diane Cooper, for students, a talk from the local mental health group Jigsaw and an inspirational visit from Para-Olympian Mark Rohan.

Children's Party

On the 16th of Oct the Special Children's party was held.

Local primary school students came to the Sacred Heart for their annual Halloween party.

This party is a much anticipated event in the area with 6th year students hosting and caring for the young pupils.

It was a fantastic event and everybody had a fantastic time.
