Sacred Heart Drogheda Student Wins World Irish Dancing Championship!

On the 27th of March, Lauren Finglas a second year student of the Sacred Heart Secondary School, Drogheda, travelled to Montreal for the World Irish Dancing Championships.

Lauren was competing over nine days, dancing in the Under 15 girls' category alongside 163 other competitors from all over the world.

Girls travelled from Australia, America, Scotland, England, Ireland, Canada, Holland and New Zealand.

In order to compete in the World Championships, Lauren qualified within her region of Ulster. There were ten qualifying places and Lauren was fortunate enough to win. Only the best dancers in each region make their way to the World Championships.

Lauren had such an amazing time in Montreal. She experienced the Canadian culture, made new friends, visited exciting places and achieved her goal and won the World Irish Dancing Championships!!

Lauren states that words cannot describe how she felt. It was sensational, a feeling that she will never forget.

To this day, she still can't believe she is the Champion of the World!! Lauren has realised what she can achieve with hard work and dedication.

We at the Sacred Heart Secondary School and all in CEIST are extremely proud of Lauren’s achievement.
