Presentation Thurles Students Enjoy CEIST Student Leadership Conference

Presentation Secondary School, Thurles students give the following account of the CEIST Student Leadership Conference, held in St Patricks College, Drumcondra on the 24th March.

CEIST Student Leadership Day

On March 24th 2015, four student leaders - Eimear Duff, Courtney Conroy, Éibhlin Vaughan and Emer Whelan, nominated by our school, attended the CEIST Congress in St. Patrick’s Education Centre, Drumcondra, Dublin.

The ceremony took place in the main lecture hall in the college and over three hundred students were present representing over ninety six schools from all around Ireland.

The day started with an opening prayer, then the girls were divided into groups to take part in workshops throughout the day.

These workshops were based on leadership, and the qualities that make a good leader. The teachers also took part in different workshops throughout the day including a mindfulness course.

After the workshops, the girls received a talk from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny who spoke about his own leadership experience and the different world leaders he has met.

During lunch, the girls were entertained by the Coláiste Íosgáin school band who played and sang many popular songs.

After lunch, the girls re-joined their groups and one person from each school made a short presentation on leadership in their school. Eimear Duff represented our school brilliantly.

The girls were then presented with their CEIST Student Leadership badges.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we thank CEIST for hosting this worthwhile event.
