News from Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland

Students and staff of Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland held a day of celebration on Thursday 21st May as Bishop Ray Browne visIted the school to unveil a new ethos wall which displays symbols of the school's values for the whole community to see.

It marked a special day for the whole school community in Presentation Castleisland. Along with the launch of their ethos wall the school celebrated the achievements of their students throughout the year.

The Transition Year students of Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland spent weeks examining the values and beliefs of their school.

They decided to make those values part of their everyday lives and portray them to all school visitors by creating an ethos wall in the main foyer in St Anne's building of the school.

Bishop Ray Browne unveiled the wall, which contains several items including embroidered hoops, inspirational quotes and lighting candles to give the students hope, inspiration and to remind them of the values within their
school community.

School Principal, Katherina Broderick, says the wall is a visual representation between the spirituality which the school seeks to promote and the daily life of the school.

"The ethos wall is so visual and it shows the representation between the school values and how they are incorporated into
the everyday life of our students and staff.

POSITIVE

"The students worked very hard to create the ethos wall and the recalled the whole experience at the celebration.

"It was very inspiring to hear what the wall meant to them. It is a positive symbol in our school," she said.

The celebration also marked a number of achievements by various students throughout the year. The fifth year students
involved in the One Good Idea project gave a presentation of their project - which made the national finals earlier this year.

Fifth year student Katie Flynn was presented with the CEIST award for her contribution to school life. The students also launched their school year book at last Thursday's event.

Katherina says the day was a very special celebration for the school community. "The day was a great celebration and was reflected of what it means to be a part of the school. It was very special for all of us here," she said.

Staff and students were joined by current and retired staff, members of our Board of management, students, parents, the
Presentation sisters and Monsignor Dan O'Riordan at the unveiling of the ethos wall last Thursday.
