Outstanding Achievements from St. Brigid's College Callan Student

Rachel Hogan had a tremendous year in 2009 culminating in the winning of the U15 singles 60x30 All-Ireland Juvenile Ladies Handball to go with her County and Leinster Honours at this grade.

She was awarded the Eamon Law Memorial Juvenile Handballer of the year for 2009 by the Kilkenny Handball Association for her commitment and success. 2009 also saw Rachel win the U16 40x20 County and Leinster Championships and she was also runner-up in the U16 All-Ireland final.

Rachel previously won an U15 40x20 doubles All-Ireland in 2008 with her partner Marie Walshe. Rachel had already won All-Ireland medals from primary schools and U13 Gaelinn honours in 2005 and 2007. Rachel went on to compete in the U15 singles 60x30 All-Ireland series, winning Leinster and coming runner-up in the All-Ireland 2008. Rachel has won 8 Leinster Medals to date.

This year Rachel is competing in the Junior Ladies Championship. In this grade you can play both singles and doubles.

She lost out in a 3-set battle in the Leinster final of the Junior singles a few weeks ago. Rachel and her partner Marie have qualified for the All-Ireland final in the Junior Ladies Doubles. Hopefully more success is on the way!!


Rachel is also a talented camogie player and was part of the St. Brigid’s College All-Ireland senior A college’s winning team of 2009. Rachel is also a key camogie player with her club Danesfort. Rachel is not only an outstanding sports person, her academic achievements are also excellent. Rachel achieved 10 A’s in her Junior Certificate Examination in St. Brigid’s in 2009.
