St Joseph's Castlebar Artistic Talent!

There were great celebrations in St Joseph's Secondary School in Castlebar recently, when the school hosted an art exhibition featuring work from over 60 past pupils, all of whom attended Art College after leaving Castlebar and have since forged careers for themselves in the world of art and design.

On Friday March 19, the exhibition was officially opened by past pupil Vicky Burke, class of 1999, who is currently starring in RTE's Fair City as Kylie. The exhibits varied from 3D fashion costumes, ceramics, fine art and prints, textiles, jewellery, graphics, film/digital media design, interior design, animation and photography.

Pictured above at the art exhibition were Vicky Burke with the Art and Design past pupils of St Joseph's Castlebar, with their art teacher Ann Geary and Sr Mairead and Aine Bean Uí Mhorain, School Principal.

One of the past pupils is a designer for Burberry, London. Another is a designer for Vivienne Westwood in London.

Many pieces were sold on the night, while pieces were also commissioned. New friendships were made and many old ones renewed.

The exhibition was very well attended, with representatives from the Arts Council, the Linenhall Arts Centre and Mayo County Council, as well as local artists, politicians, family and friends. During the cheese and wine  reception, many commented on the diversity, originality and talent that came from St Joseph's.

The exhibition will be re-exhibited in the main corridors of Mayo General Hospital from mid-April until the end of May.
