St. Joseph’s Secondary School Choir

St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar has a very proud tradition of music and choral singing. They have seven school choirs from 1st year up to 6th year. The senior choir is made up of forty students from both 5th and 6th year choirs.

These students have been singing together in choir since 1st year and are a dedicated, enthusiastic and determined group of singers.

They rehearse during choir classes, at lunchtimes and sometimes after school. This choir sings regularly at school functions, masses, carol services, in the local church and nursing homes. They compete annually in their own school choir competition and have taken part every year in the Department of Education and Skills choir exams.

St. Joseph’s Secondary School holds an annual ‘Musical Celebration’ Concert in which all the choirs perform.

Last March they recorded a CD of all school choirs. All students in the senior choir have also performed on stage in their T.Y. Musical Productions (most recent being ‘ Oliver’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’) some having played leading roles.

Many members of the choir are leaving cert music students and are members of the school orchestra.

St. Joseph’s Secondary School senior choir along with their director Ms. Deirdre Lee are delighted to be taking part in this year’s ‘All Island School Choir Competition’.
