Young Scientists and Technology Award for Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew Students!

Students Maria Regan and Hannah Kielty of Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew, Co. Galway came second out of 96 entries in the Intermediate Social and Behavioural category of the BT Young Scientists & Technology Exhibition held in the RDS last week.

Their project “Self esteem in Teenagers – fact or fiction?” involved the survey of 1,200 Irish students, 50 school counsellors and 200 French teenagers.

Dr. Maeve Martin, a judge at the exhibition said the “piece of work was a credit to the young researchers, and was carried out in a most comprehensive and careful manner and that the implications of the work are of great importance and relevance”.

Maria and Hannah continue the proud tradition of HRC involvement in Young Scientist projects and they were helped in the presentation of their work by Edel Ryan who with Fiona Ryan were the group winners in the exhibition in 2008.
