St. Raphael's College Loughrea Students explore world of nanotechnology

TO celebrate Nanoweek 2011, students from St Raphael's College in Loughrea, Co. Galway joined their counterparts from Coláiste na Coiribe in Galway city as they got an introduction to the futuristic world of nanotechnology from the group, NanoNet.

NanoNet is a single body, made up of organisations from academia and industry that work with nanoscience, which is designed to represent and promote awareness of nanoscience in Ireland and the contribution it makes to the Irish economy.

NanoNet Ireland, the group behind Nanoweek 2011,  engaged in a range of hands-on demonstrations, showing St Raphael's College in Loughrea and Colaiste na Coiribe, Galway students why scientists are working on a scale that is one billionth of a metre and how the materials they experiment on can behave so differently on the nanoscale.

NanoNet Ireland visited St Raphael's College to promote nanoscience and to demonstrate how this emerging science discipline can be applied in the development of new technologies.

Nanoweek 2011 ran from 31st January – 4th February 2011 and it's aims were to highlight how critical nanoscience is and will be for the future success of the Irish economy.
