An Comórtas GLEO

Presentation Secondary School is delighted to announce our success in the recent Foras na Gaeilge GLEO competition, which recognises the promotion of spoken Irish in English speaking Secondary Schools. Next Thursday 26th May, a group of representatives will travel to the ‘Hogan Suite’ in Croke Park to meet the renowned presenter Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh who will present a cheque for €3000 to the school.

We are very proud of the high standard of written and spoken Irish in our school and the positive attitude that is shown towards the language. A special word of thanks is extended to Roinn na Gaeilge, who have worked tirelessly throughout the years to encourage and sustain our ‘teanga dhúchais’. Their efforts in organising extra-curricular activities, clubs and trips to help nourish and foster an appreciation of the language are highly commended.

“Ní neart go cur le chéile” mar a deireann an seanfhocal.

Turas go dtí an Ghaeltacht 2011
Transition Year trip to the Gaeltacht

Ar an Déardaoin an 12ú Bealtaine 2011 chuaigh lucht na hIdirbhliana ó Mheánscoil Clochar na Toirbhirte ar thuras go dtí Gaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne. D’fhágamar an scoil go luath agus nuair a shroicheamar Ciarraí bhí an t-ádh dearg linn leis an dea-aimsir agus bhí sceitimíní áthais orainn go léir. Chuamar amach sa Bhá chun Fungi a fheiceáil agus ní raibh díomá orainn ach an oiread.

Ar a seacht a chlog chuamar go dtí halla Ceann Trá, áit a raibh an céilí ar siúl. Bhuaileamar leis an scríbhneoir agus ceoltóir cáiliúil Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé agus thug sé léacht spéisiúil dúinn ar an leabhar a scríobh sé ‘A thig na tit orm’. Bhain na cailíní ar fad an-taitneamh as an gcaint agus as an gceol freisin. Ansin bhí céilí againn sa halla leis na buachaillí ó Mheánscoil na mBráithre Críostaí, Cluain Meala.

D’éiríomar go moch ar maidin ar an Aoine agus amach linn go dtí An Blascaod Mór, áit a raibh cónaí ar Pheig Sayers agus Tomás Ó Criomthain. Thréigeadh an t-oiléan sa bhliain 1953.

Nuair a thángamar ar ais ar an míntír go slán sábhalta, ar aghaidh linn go dtí Ionad an Bhlascaoid Mhóir i nDún Chaoin, áit a raibh an treoraí T.P Ó Crochúir ag fanacht linn. Chuamar timpeall Ceann Slé leis agus stopamar ag Séipéilín Ghallarais agus Cill Mhaoilcheadair.

Tar éis an lá fada amuigh faoin aer folláin bhí gach duine stiúgtha leis an ocras. D’itheamar dinnéar blásta sna tithe agus ansin thugamar aghaidh ar Ionad Babhlála an Daingin. Bhí céilí againn arís agus ag deireadh na hoíche is cinnte go raibh gach duine traochta.

Ar an Satharn bhí orainn filleadh abhaile ach bhuaileamar le Pádraig Fírtear san Ionad ar dtús agus thug sé cuntas dúinn faoi stair agus saol na n-oileán. Ansin chuamar go dtí an ‘Mara Beo’ (Dingle Ocean World Aquarium) áit a chonaiceamar iasc de gach saghas, piongainí, agus turtair mhara!

Míle buíochas do Roinn na Gaeilge a d’eagraigh an turas agus do na múinteoirí Gaeilge ar fad as ucht a chuid oibre ar son na Gaeilge!

Choir Visit

The Volunteer State Community College Choir from Tennessee, U.S.A, wowed our students with two performances this week. Their powerful and uplifting songs had the girls tapping their feet to the rhythms and clapping along with enthusiasm.

We were so delighted to have them back for a second year running and a very special thank you to The Source for providing a wonderful venue. The Tennessee choir left a lasting impression on the girls and we can’t wait for their return again next year!
