Our Monthly School Feature for March 2012 is from Coláiste na Toirbhirte, Bandon, Co. Cork who have kindly shared with us recent news and events within their school.

Coláiste na Toirbhirte is an all girls schools with over 560 pupils at present.

Mission Statement

Coláiste na Toirbhirte, Bandon, is a college under the Trusteeship of CEIST, providing second level education for girls, in the tradition of Nano Nagle, foundress of the Presentation Congregation.

Catholic Christian principles underlie the philosophy of education in the School. Our School is a community seeking to develop the full potential of each student: - intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social.

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Ar an 13ú Márta beidh céilí ar siúl sa scoil do dhaltaí sa chéad agus sa dara bliain.

San iarnóin beidh Tráth na gCeist acu.

I rith na seachtaine bainfidh daltaí ón gcúigiú bliain taitneamh as ranganna rince sa scoil.

Féach ar fhógraí timpeall na scoile chun cúpla focail a úsáid i do shaol!

On Tuesday 13th March students from 1st and 2nd year will take part in a céilí and in the afternoon a quiz.

Throughout the week students from 5th year will enjoy set dancing classes.

Floral Tribute to Nano Nagle

The 5th year students in this school and the 5th class students in the Presentation Convent Primary school came together to create a floral tribute to Nano Nagle for the Floral Festival in St. Patricks Church , Bandon.

Catholic Schools Week

Pictured above is a stain glass effect produced by a combination of 4th students from Religon and Art classes in celebration of Catholic Schools Week in the school.

Young Social Innovators

Young Social Innovators (YSI) in Colaiste na Toirbhirte are raising awareness around the issue of homelessness with their project titled “Homeless not Hopeless”.

Our class are working in conjunction with YMCA Bandon and the Cork Simon Community. As part of our project, we have created an advert on YouTube to spread the message of homelessness.

Our YSI class have also created and desighned a resource pack for teachers of CSPE classes, which includes a DVD, a PowerPoint Presentation and activities and exercises in and around the issue of homelessness.

As part of our project, we have fundraised in many ways for various charities that deal with homelessness, including the Cork Simon Community and Focus Ireland. 

Meitheal Group

The school Meitheal Team (5th Year Students) who mentor and assist the new incoming 1st years throughout their 1st year. The team run quizes, fun days and other events throughout the year.
