St Mary's Secondary School Macroom win AIB Build a Bank Challenge!

Students Tracey Cronin, Chelsea Cunningham, Caroline Kehoe, Sharon McSweeney, Orna Hinchion and Lucy Kelleher from St Mary's Secondary School, Macroom, Co. Cork were winners of this year's AIB Build a Bank Challenge for their bank 'Ladybird Bank'.

They took home a prize of €10, 000 for their school as well as an iPad2 for each member of the team.

The annual competition, which is now in its 10th year, is a way for Transition and Fifth Year students to run their own school bank, with the support of AIB, and learn about managing their own business.

The students get involved in everything from sourcing new customers and opening AIB accounts to encouraging regular savings and exploring new ways to bank.

The team made up of Sharon McSweeney, Caroline Kehoe, Chelsea Cunningham, Tracey Cronin, Lucy Kelleher and Orna Hinchion along with their teacher Arlene O Donoghue and Student Officer Grace O’Sullivan travelled to the RDS in Dublin to compete in the final.

Over 200 schools took part in the whole competition but only 20 teams made it to the All Ireland Final.

Ladybird Bank were announced All Ireland winners for their exceptional customer services, teamwork and innovation.
