Mercy Secondary Lisdoonvarna - St. Brigid’s Day Crosses

Preparations for Catholic Schools Week in Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare began this week with our Transition Years students making Saint Brigid’s Crosses.

Sr Aloysius and Sr Breda, who are both retired members of staff, gladly facilitated in the workshop.

Most of our students already processed the skill of making the traditional St Brigid’s cross, but for our Vietnamese student Chuc, it was a first in a life time experience.

However with a little peer tutoring he mastered the skill. Well done Chuc seen pictured below making the St Brigid's cross.

The finished crosses were mounted on to a card designed by the transition years which included a Prayer to St Brigid.

The crosses will be presented to the senior citizens within the local community and also those attending the Stella Maris.

Our St Brigid’s Crosses will also be on sale in Jordan’s Mace Lisdoonvarna and all monies raised will go to the Stella Maris Day Care Facility for the Elderly, Lisdoonvarna.

It is hoped our seventeen transition years Comenius Students who are travelling to the Netherlands in early February will present their fellow Dutch counterparts with a St Brigid’s cross thus sharing an insight into Irish traditional culture and craft.
