Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford Students Participation in Musical Workshoop

On Wednesday February 6th last two Fifth Year Music students from Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford, Co. Mayo took part in a Music Workshop.

Students Stephen McDonnell and Megan Thornburg worked with Colm and Rossa O Snodaigh of Kila, harpist Cormac de Burca and Mayo musician Emer Mayock.

The venue for the workshop was the National Museum of Country Life in Turlough House Castlebar.

The workshop began with a viewing of two archive films filmed in Mayo with new background music composed by Colm and Rossa O Snodaigh and Cormac de Burca.

The purpose of the workshop was to explore the experience of musicians in composing, arranging and performing music to compliment a film.

The two students also got the opportunity to create their own musical piece for a film.

The Workshop was offered in conjunction with a film and music event presented by the Irish Film Institute at the Linenhall Theatre Castlebar.

This was a fantastic opportunity for both Megan and Stephen to work alongside such accomplished musicians and to experience a new dimension to Traditional Irish Music.
