Teresa Regan has kindly shared the following school news from Presentation Secondary School, Ballingarry, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Latest School News

Congratulations to our Third Year students who hosted a very successful bake sale, recently as part of their CSPE project.

Well done to all students (and their mammys) who produced delicious cakes and buns, which went down a treat on a cold Friday morning.

All money raised will be donated to the students' chosen project topic, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland.

Puppy in training Fifi made a surprise appear to oversee the bake sale and needless to say she stole the show!

Senior hurling team

On Wednesday last, the senior hurling team kept their campaign on track with a very hard fought win against a strong Borrisokane C.C team.

Having played with the elements at their backs in the first period, Ballingarry found themselves a point down at the break.

In an exciting and tense second half, Ballingarry won on a scoreline of 2-10 to 13 points with the crucial goals coming from Conor Duggan and Paddy Burns.

On the day there were great performances from Mark Mullally, Keith Cleere, Darragh Kelly and Paddy Ivors.

Well done to our u-19 girls basketball team who defeated Ardscoil na Mara Tramore to advance to the semi-finals of the South-East. It is a brilliant achievement to reach this stage of the competition again.

We will face Loreto Wexford next week. Hard luck to our u-16 girls basketball team who were beaten after three periods of extra-time 33-31 by Ardscoil na Mara Tramore. The girls gave an extraordinary effort and can be very proud of themselves.

Science Week

As part of Science Week Translation Year students organised a science quiz for 1st and 2nd year students on Wednesday afternoon.

The winners of the quiz were Ciarán Maher (2nd year), Cian Cranitch (1st year), Ryan Cranitch (1st year) and Petr Fiala (1st year). Well done to all involved.

6th year Retreat

Our 6th years had an opportunity last week to step back from the pressures of the Leaving Cert course, to take time to reflect on their lives and their relationship with God and each other.

Students travelled to Mount St Anne's Retreat Center in Killenard and they all thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Presentation Day Liturgy

On Monday 21st November, our school chaplain, Fr. Derry celebrated Mass to mark the feast of The Presentation of Our Lady in the temple.

We were delighted that some of our locals joined us for this very special liturgy.

In celebrating the Mass we joined in thought and prayer with Presentation Sisters throughout the world but in particular we prayed for Sisters Miriam, Patricia and Teresa who live and work in our parish.
