Catholic Schools Week 2017

On Sunday 29th January Bishop Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin, was the chief celebrant and preacher at Mass to mark the opening of Catholic Schools Week 2017.

This Mass was broadcast by RTÉ on radio and television from the Church of Saints Peter & Paul, Portlaoise, which has a capacity for 1,800 people.

As well as the local parish community of Portlaoise, the liturgy for this year’s opening Mass for Catholic Schools Week was enhanced by the participation of students, staff and parents from ten local schools.

The theme this year is ‘Catholic Schools: Learning with Pope Francis to Care for Our Common Home’.

As in previous years, resource booklets are being delivered to your school and are also available online here:

Three lessons are offered for Junior Cycle and two for Senior Cycle Religious Education. Each lesson is based on the encyclical ‘Laudato Si’.

There are also opportunities for staff and Boards of Management to reflect on the content of this very rich encyclical.
