Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty Awarded Amber Flag

Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty was awarded the Amber Flag recently by the IGC and Suicide aware at a ceremony in the Rochestown park Hotel. The AMBER FLAG initiative aims to encourage

Schools/Colleges/Clubs/Societies/Organisations to promote and actively bring about a culture change in the promotion of positive mental health within the educational system and other organisations.

It is to enhance the already good work that is going on where mental health is concerned by offering an award.

The Amber Flag acknowledges the wonderful work going on in schools in the promotion of “Positive Mental Health”.

It becomes a daily topic of conversation leading to a cultural shift where mental health becomes “The Norm” leading to the breaking down of “Stigma” that is associated with mental health resulting in individuals seeking help sooner, when mental health issues arise.

The YSI Advocates of Sacred Heart Secondary School orgainised various activities and events throughout the year to promote positive mental health and well-being for all. This was done through awareness and education.

They ran a successful Friend Ship week encouraging all first years to engage and connect with each other.

The Advocates presented a power-point presentation to all year groups to highlight the importance of mental health and showed ways to take care of one’s own mental health.

Sacred Heart are very proud of the good work being done in the school and aim to ensure that mental health is part of the culture of the school.
