Coláiste Muire, Crosshaven School Awards

The third annual Coláiste Muire Realt na Mara school awards were held in the Rochestown Park Hotel recently, and duly marked the achievements of students who had excelled themselves in academic, community and sporting codes throughout the past academic year.

School principal Donal O’Brien welcomed everyone to the schools awards ceremony, with a special welcome given to Caroline Counihan, President Cork Business Association who was the special guest this year and who presented the awards to each of the recipients.

He added that the evening was a tribute to outstanding achievements of students, staff and members of our local community, saying that the school were fortunate to have so many other students who are hardworking, considerate, kind, helpful and co-operative in the school, and went onto congratulate individually and collectively all the other students who create a positive, warm and welcoming environment at Colaiste Muire.

The presentation of awards followed, and consisted of Academic awards, Principals Awards for Year recipients, a number of achievement awards, including Art, Music, Technology, Environment, Voluntary and School Spirit.

Competition winners included the Cork City and County Enterprise Trade Fair where the school captured no less than four major awards, including Best Overall, Most Innovative, Best Overall Display and Best Overall Presentation.

A very special award was presented to Eoin Marron who went through the whole of secondary and primary school without missing a single day – a total of 2,466 days.

This years Hall of Fame Award was presented to former pupil Raymond Murphy who has won numerous pitch and putt championships, represented Ireland on numerous occasions and is regarded as Irelands Number One player.
