Galway’s newest secondary school, is being established as a result of the amalgamation of Our Lady’s College and St. Mary’s College, Galway. The new school represents a marriage of the historic educational philosophy of St. Mary’s College with two other towering education traditions in Galway City – Mercy and Presentation through Our Lady’s College.
The Interim Board of Management, of the new school established by the amalgamation of Our Lady’s College and St Mary’s College Galway, is delighted to announce that, following consultation with the stakeholders, the new school will be called Coláiste Muire Máthair.
The name, Coláiste Muire Máthair reflects the unique historical, cultural and community spirit of Galway and the ethos traditions and values of Our Lady’s College and St Mary’s College.The newly amalgamated school will be an inclusive Catholic co-educational voluntary secondary school under the joint trusteeship of CEIST and the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora.
Coláiste Muire Máthair is also very happy to announce the appointment of Ms Betty Hernon as Principal of the new school and wishes her every success in her role as Principal.
