Scoil Dara, Kilcock

Mission Statement

Scoil Dara promotes a community of faith inspired by gospel values. The community of the school works in a holistic manner to ensure that dependence is gradually replaced by responsibility for self, society and the world. The dignity to each student, staff member and parent is honoured and reflected in school policies and structures. While educational excellence is promoted, it is the needs of the learner that learner that direct the development of the school. We engage with alternative approaches to education especially for those who are most disadvantaged. The school promotes a spirit of service and care.

School History

Scoil Dara is the result of an amalgamation of two schools, the Presentation Girls Secondary School (Scoil Iosa) and the Christian Brothers Boys Secondary School. The schools amalgamated in 1991. The Scoil Iosa buildings were extended to facilitate the amalgamation and a fine gymnasium was built at the same time, so that the school has excellent sports facilities. The school was extended again in 2003 and now has extensive IT facilities.

The Christian Brothers had built their National school in Kilcock in 1872 and the Presentation Sisters built theirs in 1879. The secondary schools were established in 1962 and 1967 respectively.

Scoil Dara is now a thriving co-educational secondary school serving the needs of its local community. It is very highly regarded in its community and is proud of its record in helping each student to achieve their potential. The school has a very strong engagement with the local community and parents are actively involved in the life of the school. The school prides itself on its pastoral care of its students.
