St. Leo’s College Carols by Candlelight

St. Leo’s College annual Carols by Candlelight took place on Tuesday, 16th December, in St. Mary’s Church, Carlow, and was a truly memorable evening for all in attendance. The beautifully lit church provided a warm and festive atmosphere for this much-anticipated musical event.

The evening began with a warm welcome from the Head Girls, who greeted the audience and MC’d the event. Brooke Rea then gave a wonderful reading of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, which was enjoyed by all. Liadh Nolan welcomed everyone as Gaeilge, with her speech thoughtfully translated by Karen Doyle.

Every year group in the school was represented, reflecting the inclusive nature of the event. The First Years opened the performance with two songs, Somewhere in My Memory and Somewhere Only We Know, under the musical direction of Ms Áine Cosgrave. The programme featured a variety of musical performances, including solo and group singing and instrumental pieces, performances by the First Year Choir, the Chamber Choir, and the Folk Group, as well as a number of dance performances showcasing the wide range talent within St. Leo’s College.

Parents, guardians, and family members filled the church, thoroughly enjoying the festive performances. Before the evening concluded with the final carols, there was a surprise performance of Walking in a Winter Wonderland by the senior management team, bringing the celebration to a delightful close.

Carols by Candlelight was a truly special evening that captured the spirit of Christmas and celebrated the strong sense of community within St. Leo’s College.
