Martyna Florek wins award Connacht/Ulster in the Thomas F Meagher Foundation Competition

We want to congratulate Martyna Florek 2nd Year, who won the provincial award for Connacht/Ulster in the Thomas F Meagher Foundation Competition. Martyna was one of the only junior students to win the award and we are very proud of her.

Martyna wrote an essay on ‘What it is like to live in Ireland in 2018 and what the flag represents to me’.

Martyna was presented with this award at a special ceremony held in Dail Eireann on Monday 21st May. Martyna and three classmates, with their History teacher Ms. Shields attended the ceremony and enjoyed lunch in the Dail with 20 other students from around the country.

Huge congratulations to Martyna and all the 2nd Years who raised €570 for their chosen charities as part of this competition. Huge thanks to Ms Shields for her work in promoting this competition in 2nd year History classes.

Student Council Fundraiser

Our Student Council held a non-uniform day Friday 18th May to support the 5th years who will travel to Lourdes this summer with the dioceses and their chosen charities for this year.

All students were encouraged to take part and bring €2 to their class rep.  Thanks to our Student Council and Ms McNulty who worked tirelessly this year to give all our students a voice in our school.

School Awards

During our school awards ceremony held on Monday 21st May in the school gym the Ceist Award went to Sarah Fletcher. Our school community came together to celebrate academic success, sporting endeavour, friendship and extra-curricular participation.

The Awards were presented by past student, Edel Kelly, who is Professor of Food Science in UCD. Edel encouraged our students to develop their personal relationship skills as well as their academic skills. In this age of technology and the emerging use of artificial intelligence, the personal skills of human interaction are more important than ever, she explained. She told our students that they are living in a very exciting time, with their whole lives ahead of them and to enjoy this time. She reminisced that she really enjoyed her time in secondary school and wished all our students well.

Meitheal Graduation

Congrats to Mary Cuddy, Ciara Hibbitt, Brid Kilroy, Stephanie O’Halloran, Saoirse Ni Thuairisg and Emily Turley on their Meitheal Graduation. The Graduation will be held in Esker Friday 25th May. The girls worked tirelessly this year with our 1st Years providing an invaluable induction day back in August, surveying 1st Years regularly to monitor their settling into their new surroundings in Ardscoil Mhuire and how the Meitheal group could best support them in this process.. They organised lunchtime sports activities with the Student Council and then went on to organise a guest speaker to speak on Mental Health with 5th Years and 1st Years. The girls definitely put their Meitheal Leadership training into practice working extremely well as a team in identifying the needs of our 1st Years and executing plans to meet these needs. Well done to each of you and to your families. You are an amazing and inspirational group of young people. Have a restful, happy, healthy summer break.
