Presentation College, Carlow German Students Represent Ireland in the Ökoscoop online German / Sustainability Competition

Congratulations to Presentation College, Carlow German students who mentored by Ms Byrne represented themselves, Presentation College and Ireland in an International German / Sustainability competition.  The competition Ökoscoop is a new competition, which has been organised by the Goethe Institute and is replacing the Siemens German Debating Competition. This was the first year of the competition and all schools in the British Isles were invited to participate. There were three stages in the competition – the third being a Press Conference entirely through German. Presentation College was the only Irish school involved at the end.

The project was organised by the Goethe Institut in London and initially students worked through various modules on environmental issues using the GIImagine platform. Each team then had to research an environmental issue relevant to their school setting. The Presentation College team was lead by Páidí Breen and the team members were Zahin, Rose, Martin and Abyan. The final stage of the competition was an online Zoom Press Conference on Friday 23rd january 2026. Presentation College spoke about our school Re-Turn system – see: Die Grünen Flaschen.pdf and answered questions in German from the other schools in our group. Presentation College, Carlow had excellent feedback and are now awaiting the results following all of the other Press Conferences.
