SUCCESS FOR SCOIL MHUIRE TRIM AT BT YOUNG SCIENTIST

Congratulations to Maeve Kenny, 5th year student at Scoil Mhuire Secondary School in Trim, Co Meath on winning 3rd place in Social and Behavioural Sciences Senior category at the 2018 BT Young Scientist Awards.  This is a super achievement for Maeve and her teachers Clare Atkinson and Belinda O’Gorman. Her project comprises of a Wearable Memory Device. The purpose of Maeve’s project was to design a medical product to alleviate everyday minor worries such as remembering to lock the front door. It will be targeted at people who suffer from anxiety, OCD and other memory or stress related illnesses. Maeve also hopes this product will prove useful to the general public. Maeve has developed a functional bespoke wood and glass pendent and necklace with the help of Gerry Ruane (Burren Jewellery) using a human-centred design approach. Maeve also produced various 3D printed prototypes in the development process. All staff and students at Scoil Mhuire are immensely proud of Maeve and this fantastic achievement.
