Our Passion for Sustainable Fashion

Congratulations & well done to Rang 4 Saoirse who travelled to DCU today to pitch their project, “Our Passion for Sustainable Fashion” in YSI Dragons Den. The goal was to attain funding for their project. The team performed brilliantly and were funded €600. This will go towards paying for a day course on repairing and up-cycling clothes. They will then give classes to the rest of the school community. There are also plans to put in place a pop up shop to trade and upcycle clothes. Teacher: Mr. Davis.

 

Maynooth University Awards for Academic Excellence in Junior Cycle Business Studies

Congratulations to Jolie Chang and Grace Daly, who both received Maynooth University Awards for Academic Excellence in Junior Cycle Business Studies. Both girls got Distinction grade in Business Studies in their new Junior Cycle. Teacher: Ms. Dillon.

 

Food for Thought – Hewlett Packard Innovation 4 Good Award

Transition Year students Áine Rooney, Gráinne Nevin and Katie Sheridan, who won the Hewlett Packard Innovation 4 Good Award at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, were invited to present their project, “Food for Thought” to over 100 employees of Hewlett Packard, including their Global Chief Sustainability Officer from California Mr. Christopher Wellise, and the managing director of Hewlett Packard Ireland, Ms Maeve Culleton. The girls presented their project confidently and received fantastic feedback from members of the audience who were very impressed with the girls project idea. The girls received great encouragement to progress their labelling system of the carbon rating of fruit and vegetables further, and Hewlett Packard would like to keep in touch with the girls to offer their support and expertise. Safer Internet Day (SID)

Congratulations & well done to all involved in Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It takes place on Tuesday 11th February and the theme this year is “Together for a Better Internet“. Our Webwise Ambassadors, Amy O’Mara and Tara O’Reilly organised some events in the school including a poster competition, presentations to SPHE classes and wrist bands. The winners of the SID poster competition were: Perla Healy (1st year), Karolina Lukseviciule (2nd year), Claudia Guerrero (TY). Thanks to the art teachers: Ms Glennon & Ms Kealy who facilitated this. Our SID Ambassadors, Amy O’Mara & Tara O’Reilly, are continuing to give presentations to the Junior Cycle classes. All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad

 

Congratulations to Rhiannon Farrell & Eimear Sherwin (5th Years) who have qualified for the All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) National Finals, which will be held in DCU on Wednesday 11th March. Teacher: Ms. Mullaghy.

 

Women’s Rugby

Well done to our Senior and Junior Rugby Teams who took part in the Leinster North East preliminary blitz which was hosted in North Meath Rugby Club. Congratulations and best of luck to Dara Yore who was selected for Ireland’s under 18 women’s rugby squad. The squad is travelling to Scotland for a training weekend which will end with a match against Scotland’s u18 squad. Coaches: Ben Traynor & Ms Glennon.

 

Soccer u15 Team

Well done to the u15 soccer team on winning their match against Coláiste Dun An Rí Kingscourt last week. Coaches: Ms. Glennon & Fr. David.

 

Kells Credit Union Art competition

Congratulations to Talitha Cole, TY student, who came 1st in her age category in the Kells Credit Union Art competition. She also went on to win at Regional Level. Her artwork will feature in next year’s Credit Union Calendar. Also well done to Leva Martinkaite, Ciara Sheridan and Claudia Guerrero who were runners up in the Kells Credit Union Art Competition. Ski trip to Italy

Second Years went on a ski trip to Pinzolo in Italy with, Ms. Conaty, Mr. Daly, Ms. Mimnagh, Ms. Shalvey & Mr. Wright.

A tranquillity garden was created as part of Catholic Schools Week.
